Pine nuts (piniols) are edible seeds of several types of pine. Like other nuts, pine nuts have numerous nutritional values. Peanuts are obtained from cones of selected pine varieties. Under the influence of heat, they open, releasing hard seeds in a stiff scales. After removing the scales, sweet and sour nuts are obtained, with a delicate taste and a characteristic forest aroma. What distinguishes them from other nuts is a large content of zinc.
