Ein kostengünstiges Verfahren zur Aktivierung von Kunststoff- und Elastomeroberflächen stellt die Behandlung mit dem APC500 dar. Mit Luft als Prozessgas können unter Atmosphärendruck große Oberflächen aktiviert werden. Zwischen zwei Elektroden wird im inhomogenen Feld ein Lichtbogen gezündet. Die Spannung beträgt etwa 10.000 V. In der Entladungszone wird die durchströmende Luft ionisiert. Durch den Luftstrom wird das Plasma aus dem Elektrodenbereich herausgeblasen. In der austretenden Corona kann das Substrat nun behandelt werden. In der Corona wird ein mehrere Zentimeter breiter Streifen behandelt. Mit mehreren parallelen Plasmaerzeugern ist es möglich Flächen zu behandeln. Aufgrund von gefährlichem Spannungspotential ist PlasmaAPC 500 nur für nichtleitende Materialien geeignet.
