Gli inceneritori distruggono gli inquinanti attraverso l’ossidazione termica ad alte temperature. I gas di scarico, i rifiuti liquidi o una combinazione di rifiuti liquidi e gassosi vengono convogliati direttamente nella camera di combustione. Il lay-out standard è composto da una camera di combustione, una caldaia per il recupero del calore residuo e un depolveratore. Può essere previsto un preriscaldamento dell’aria comburente per aumentare l’efficienza termica dell’impianto, riducendo il consumo di gas combustibile ausiliario richiesto per mantenere la temperatura di combustione. Il gas di scarico viene inviato all’inceneritore tramite un ventilatore, mentre l’ingresso dei rifiuti liquidi, direttamente in camera di combustione o come combustibile per il bruciatore, avviene per mezzo di una lancia atomizzata con ugelli di ampio diametro per limitare la possibilità di intasamento.
